Light bulb Safety Tips

Let us talk a bit about light bulb safety as it sometimes overlooked. When it comes to electrical it is important to keep everything in mind including light bulbs. I have written down simple steps that you can take to ensure that you stay safe in your homes. As always if you are not sure or have questions reach out to a professional.

1. Make sure you are using the correct wattage for each fixture in your home. A higher wattage bulb than necessary can cause a fixture to overheat.

2. Always ensure your bulb is screwed in tightly and securely. A loose bulb can cause sparks and shorts.

3. Be aware of lights that flicker in your home. If the bulb is screwed in tightly and the fixture itself looks secure the lights could be the result of loose wiring. First ensure it is not the bulb, but if lights continue to flicker, call an electrician to investigate. Loose wiring is a leading cause in house fires. Knowing what to look for is a major step in keeping your home and family safe.
